Imagine the evening lights up the night with thousand beautiful handcrafted lanterns ranging up to 30 feet tall. These represent Chinese tradition that started over 2,000 years ago. This is exactly what you will see at the Chinese Lantern Festival at the Pomona Fairplex from November 21, 2019 – January 5, 2020.
The temporary installation at the Pomona Fairplex offers glowing lights of Chinese culture. Experience “Blooming Seasonsβ as you journey deep into a vast wonderland from exotic flowers, plants, trees, insects, mammals to reptiles to experience the four seasons of nature. The theme serves as a reminder for the people to protect the natural world of the earth.
Blooming Seasons
This year, the stunning lanterns are bigger and brighter including an 85-foot-wide lantern arch, 100-yard long breathtaking Ceramic Chinese Dragon, along with rideable “mythical creatures” children’s rides. In Chinese myth, these mythical creatures are legendary spirits and guardians of the Middle Kingdom.
Each lantern is handcrafted by masters from Zigong, south of the Sichuan province of China, which is the center for Chinese lanterns. Chinese lanterns were only view by emperors and their associates thousand years ago. Today, this unique art form is spreading to the public across the world.
Each lantern is made of modern materials and eco-friendly technology with brilliantly-lit colored LED light-bulbs, musical enhancements and sound effects, plus visual moving parts to create larger-than-life imaginative shapes.
In addition to the lanterns, the Chinese Lanterns Festival includes authentic live Chinese folk musical concert and traditional dance show. You can find folk art souvenir booths, food and concessions, as well as holiday displays including your photo taken with lantern Santa Claus.
My family and I attended the Chinese Lantern Festival last year and we had a great time viewing the beautiful displays. We are glad that the Chinese Lantern Festival returns to Pomona Fairplex with a brand new theme this year. We found it easy to walk around to see all the lanterns. Besides enjoying the colorful lanterns, my kids had a blast riding on the different mystical creatures. Overall, we enjoyed the colorful, dazzling display of lanterns during the holiday season.
