Did you know there are 52 historic stairways all over Silver Lake, which is the east central region of Los Angeles, California? Some of these stairways are painted in colorful and geometric patterns, making them fun to view while climbing. These historic stairways are reminders of a time when the city installed stairs to use as direct routes for pedestrians to get down the hills to school, supermarket and transit lines. This was the time when the city was served by trolleys, buses and trains. These days, the stairways are used as killer workout alternatives to gyms. Recently, I decided to check out the Silver Lake stairways to get some fresh air and exercise. Check out the stairways below in the order that I visited.
Murray Stairs
This is a 90-step stairway that features piano keys and red hearts. Corinne Carey painted this stairway with hashtag #StairTempo.

Micheltorena Stairs
This is a a 177-step stairway that has colorful steps and red hearts to look at as you climb. Corinne Carey also painted this stairway with hashtag #StairCandy.

Swan Stairs
There are 3 parts for the Swan Stairs. The first one known as the Pantone Stairs, which are painted in shades of teal and blue. The second one is known as the Shape Stairs, which are painted in red, pink and yellow to form a zig zag path. The last one is the J’taime LA Stairs, which has a large mural on the wall for a great photo-op.
Address: 2958 Swan Place, Los Angeles, CA 90026
I also stopped by the Hoover Walk Stairway, but could not take picture of it since there was a person there who did not want to move out of the way. This stairway features a forked stairway with a winged-eye in the middle of the steps, which makes it really interesting. Address: 1654 N Hoover St, Los Angeles, CA 90027.
