Post written in collaboration with Feld Entertainment for Monster Jam. All opinions are my own!
Monster Jam, the most action-packed motorsport, returns to Anaheim for five events filled with high-flying action and four-wheel excitement. This past weekend, we attended our first Monster Jam first Pit Party, and our third Monster Jam show.
During the Pit Party, we got close to the monster trucks and met some of our favorite drivers such as Brad Allen of the Monster Mutt and Becky McDonough of El Toro Loco.
It is amazing to see how big the massive trucks are in person. There were tons of activities for the kids to do such as drive the Grave Digger quad, build a monster truck, slide down on the inflatable slide, and watch the motocross stunts.
The Monster Jam show is split into three different rounds. During the first round, the trucks were racing with each other to cross the finish line. The second round was a two-wheel skills challenge including donut, stoppie, popper, wheelie, sky wheelie, noise wheelie, and bicycle. This round was judged by the crowd via the Judges Zone.
The final round was a 120-second freestyle where the trucks displayed skills and tricks using all obstacles. Scores are based on creativity, wow factor, technical moves, and combinations to perform tricks. To qualify for a score, the driver must complete a minimum of 30 seconds of freestyle. My kids enjoyed the last two rounds the most because they got to be the judges and submitted scores for each driver. The Monster Jam truck with the highest average score wins the competition. My daughter was super happy when Becky who drove El Toro Loco won this round.
Overall, we recommend attending the Pit Party as it makes the Monster Jam experience a lot more fun and personal. We enjoyed watching the massive trucks doing tricks such as back flips, launching up to 30 feet into the air, vertical two-wheel skills, and racing at speeds up to 70 miles per hour. It was always fun to watch the world-class drivers compete in front of the crowds.
The most accessible family-friendly sport in the world today returns to Anaheim on January 11th & 25th and February 8th, 22nd & 23rd, 2020. Monster Jam is the big league of motorsports competition where 12,000-pound trucks and the world-class athletes who drive them tear up the dirt with gravity-defying feats. Male and female athletes are trained and master the physical strengths and mental stamina needed to compete and the ability to control 12,000-pound machines to be able to do tricks to produce jaw-dropping, live motorsports action seen around the world.
