My family and I kicked off the holiday season by attending the preview night at The Elf on the Shelf Magical Holiday Journey. It’s an all-new, one-of-a-kind immersive holiday drive-thru experience at the Fairplex in Pomona, California. This is an elf-tacular adventure that is safe and fun for everyone!
The mission? Magically shrink down to elf-size and help Santa get back to the North Pole by collecting Christmas spirit! The Elf on the Shelf’s Magical Holiday runs from November 12, 2020 – January 3, 2021.
Before arriving, we downloaded the app on our IOS phone and connected to the car system to hear the narration and music for our journey. We arrived 15 minutes before our reserved time session as recommended. Before our journey started, we had an opportunity to purchase merchandise from our car such as elves, elf books, and clothes. The fun began after our tickets were scanned and we each were given a bag with a sheet of paper, a marker, and some treats. We were encouraged to write a letter to Santa during the first 10 minutes of our journey and turn it in. Make sure to turn in the letter as there is a surprise at the end. It’s totally worth it.
The journey started when we were shrunken down to elf size and entered the shrinking tunnel to see a beautiful Santa Fe railroad train decked out in a spectacular light show. We enjoyed the performance of the elves who danced and performed tricks. There was also a scavenger hunt to find the sleigh bells. The drive-thru lasted about an hour to help Santa find the magic to fly again after his sleigh mishap. At the end, we had our photo taken, and the video was available to download immediately.
Shrinking Tunnel

Drop off Station
Write a letter to Santa within the first 10 minutes of your journey and turn it in at the Drop off station for a special surprise at the end of your journey.
Spirit Escalation Station
Measure the progression at the Spirit Escalation Station where your vehicle will be measured to find out your level of Christmas spirit. If you are full of holiday cheer, the brighter the star will be.
Performances by Elves
Elves dance and perform tricks throughout the journey.
Arctic Winter Wonderland
Books fell out of the sleigh and landed in the Arctic.

Tips before you go
- Arrive 15 minutes before the start of your session.
- Masks are required when rolling down your windows down to enjoy the fun.
- A smartphone is required to experience the narration and music that guide the journey. Best to have 2 phones (1 for the narration and 1 for pictures).
- Narration is available in English and Spanish.
- Pay attention to Chapter sign and press next Chapter in the app.
- Refreshment and merchandise available to purchase from your vehicle.
- The journey takes about an hour long.
- Bring snacks and drinks to enjoy during the journey.

- Ticket prices start at $19.95 for children and $24.95 for adults.
- Free for children under 2 years old.
- VIP upgrade is available (a dedicated welcome lane for VIP guests, one magic gift bag per car/order, and a socially distanced photo opportunity with Santa for the whole group in your car.)
